Agent-based modeling

Cities are complex systems par excellence. Along with the growing theoretical understanding of the cities as complex systems, agent-based models emerged as a useful method to model these systems.

Igor Nikolic (faculty of TPM) developed two OpenCourseWare courses: a basic and an advanced course. There you can find a lot of online material, including movies, lectures and readings.

The book Complexity Theories of Cities Have Come of Age (Portugali et al, 2012) provides an overview on cities and complexity, and includes some applications of agent-based models. The book Cities and Complexity (Batty  2005) is focuses on various methods, like cellular automata, agent-based models and fractals.
